Laser toning

Even out pigmentation in one visit

A low-energy Q-switched laser passes over the skin in repeated gentle sweeps to break up melasma, freckles and dark spots. Most people go back to normal activity the same day, with at most mild redness for a few hours. One session fits easily into a shopping day.

A calm face with a few brown spots on the cheek. A laser handpiece sweeps a wide fan of gentle light across the cheek, and a magnified circle shows a pigment cluster breaking into tiny particles.
  1. Gentle passes. A low-energy laser sweeps over the skin several times rather than firing hard once, which keeps heat low.
  2. The target. Brown pigment such as melasma, freckles and dark spots.
  3. What happens. The pigment breaks into fine particles that the body clears over the following weeks, so tone evens out gradually across a course.

Schematic, not to scale.

Good to know

  • Use sunscreen daily and stay out of direct sun for at least a week after the session.
  • Skip saunas, hot baths, intense exercise and alcohol for 24–48 hours, since heat can prolong redness.
  • Pause retinol and acid exfoliants for 3–5 days before and after.
  • Tell the clinic about any active skin infection, cold sore or recent acne medication; your doctor decides at consultation whether to postpone.

Questions

Does it hurt?

Most people describe a mild warm snapping sensation, and numbing cream is standard. Sensitivity differs from person to person.

When will I see a difference?

Brightening is often visible within the first week, and tone usually evens out further over 3–5 sessions spaced 2–4 weeks apart.

Can I wear makeup afterwards?

Usually a few hours after the session, once any redness has settled. Follow the timing your clinic gives you.

How many sessions should I book for one trip?

A single session is still worthwhile on a short trip. Your doctor will suggest a longer plan at consultation if your pigmentation needs one.
