Health Screening
Preparing for a health screening in Korea
Preparation varies by program. Follow the instructions from the hospital that will actually perform the screening, even if they differ from general guidance.
Fasting
Major hospital programs commonly require overnight fasting before blood testing and abdominal/endoscopic examinations. Exact fasting instructions vary by hospital and procedure.
Do not assume that water, coffee, gum, candy or smoking are allowed during the fasting period; check the hospital's instructions.
The day before
Hospitals may advise avoiding heavy alcohol intake, overeating, strenuous exercise, and significant sleep deprivation, which can affect test results or procedural safety.
Medication
Tell the screening center about:
- diabetes medication
- insulin
- anticoagulants
- antiplatelet therapy
- blood pressure medication
- GLP-1/GIP-GLP-1 medication
- supplements
- other prescription medication
Do not stop medication unless instructed by a qualified healthcare professional.
Pregnancy possibility
Tell the hospital before X-ray, CT, mammography, nuclear medicine or other imaging involving radiation if pregnancy is possible.
Menstruation
Some urine, stool and gynecologic tests may be affected by menstruation. Ask whether the appointment should be adjusted.
Previous records
Bring or send:
- previous screening reports
- recent imaging
- medication list
- important diagnoses
- family history
- allergy information
