Focused ultrasound is delivered to the deep support layer of the skin to tighten it without any incision. The result builds gradually over 2–3 months as collagen remodels. Most people return to normal activity straight after the session.

  1. Ulthera: focused points. Ultrasound is focused to tiny points at set depths (1.5, 3.0 and 4.5 mm), placed in lines while the practitioner watches a live image of the layers.
  2. Thermage: broad heat. Radiofrequency warms a wider zone of the deep dermis and the fibrous strands of the fat beneath.
  3. Surface cooling. Thermage cools the skin surface (and adds vibration) while it heats underneath, which is why it is felt as short bursts of heat.

Good to know

  • Tenderness, mild swelling or a tingling feeling can last from a few days up to 2 weeks.
  • Tell the clinic about facial implants, metal plates or recent filler in the treatment area.
  • Avoid saunas and strong heat for 3 days.
  • Book 2–3 months before an event, since the lifting effect appears slowly.

Does it hurt?
